Serviced apartments
If you want to rent an apartment rather than just a hotel room, there are many hotels in Bangkok that offer service apartments.

Centrepoint CentrePoint is probably the biggest player of serviced apartments in Bangkok and have about seven sites in the city.
Hotels
There are hundreds of hotel to choose from of every breed and size, so I suppose it is the location that is important to you. Popular areas are by the river near the skytrain station Saphan Taksin, which is where TheRiverSideBangkok is. There are alot of top class hotels around here such as the Peninsula, The Shangri-la, The Oriental and the Millenium Hilton. Other areas are Sukhumvit or the Khoasan Road (more for backpackers). Perhaps a good place to search further for hotels are sites such as tripadvisor and VirtualTourist.
Other hotels recommended to me is the Tawana Bangkok which is situated on the Surawongse Road near Silom and has been described as an elegant classy Thai traditional place, a jewel from the past. I have also heard that the nearby Astera Sathorn Hotel is a well run hotel but I would not describe it as cheap
I have also stayed at the Grand Tower Inn, this is close by to Baan Sathorn Chaophraya, if you cross the main road go under the bridge it is the first road on the left. This is a good value basic hotel, its clientelle is mainly Thai, it is comfortable and if you are on a tight budget then it might suit you, but if you have come all this way and want a quality experience then stay in our apartments.
